Nakuru County to re-introduce mechanization services for farmers

Agriculture is the greatest income earner for people living upcountry. The County Government of Nakuru is committed to improving Agricultural Mechanisation Services (AMS) to ensure farmers in the County have access to subsidized mechanization services.

Provision of the subsidized mechanisation services not only provides reduced cost of production but also helps in reducing reliance on human labour which is not economical and in return increases yields.

Accompanied by Chief Officer Agriculture Kibet Kurgat in an inspection and status review meeting at the AMS Center, Agriculture CECM Leonard Bor has said that Nakuru Country Government led by H.E Governor Susan Kihika will ensure the facility is improved and the AMS grounded plants, machinery and equipment are restored to order to ensure more farmers benefit from the services.

Chief Officer Kibet Kurgat seconded the move, saying that a lot of energy and time is used to till the land using human labour, which is also limited to just a few acres as compared to machines. He has urged farmers to embrace technology for improved productivity.

The AMS is meant to till the land for farmers at an average subsidized fee of less than Ksh 3,000 per acre and help them save from unscrupulous business people who overcharge them.
