Nakuru County launches inspection of public facilities for safety compliance
The County Government of Nakuru has launched an inspection exercise of all its public facilities for safety compliance.
Education, ICT and e-Government CECM Mr Raymond Komen said the move was necessitated by the ongoing heavy rains pounding the region.
He was speaking when he oversaw rescue and search mission after a toilet block caved in at Kisulisuli Primary School in Nakuru East.
Kenya Red Cross and the Nakuru Fire Brigade officials rescued five boys who were injured by falling blocks and rushed to Nakuru County Referral Hospital.
Mr Komen said the rains had weakened the soils and the structure base gave in to the weight of the pupils who had gone to relieve themselves after the morning parade.
After a closed door consultative meeting with the school management, the police, Kenya Red Cross and other stakeholders, Mr Komen ordered the school closed as comprehensive inspection continues.
The CECM urged the public to be vigilant due to the heavy rains experienced across the country.
