Solai dam tragedy update: Death toll rises to 44
On Wednesday evening Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui and Regional Commissioner Mwongo Chimwanga held a press briefing on the Solai dam tragedy.
The death toll risen to 44. So far 40 people have been reported missing.
One of the dams will have to be discharged to avoid disaster. A technical team comprising of engineers from National and County Government Water departments are working to discharge the water safely.
In the meantime, waterways have been opened to discharge water from that dam. A village near that dam has been evacuated.
A camp for affected has been set up at Solai Secondary School. A Multi-agency team is continuing with search and rescue operation.
The Devolution Ministry has donated 800 bags of rice, 400bags of beans, maize and well wishers, including Lions Club have donated blankets and foodstuff.
