Governor Kinyanjui says inspection of dams in County crucial
The County Government of Nakuru has welcomed the inspection of all water bodies within its boundaries for safety.
Governor Lee Kinyanjui said some dams pose major safety concerns especially with the ongoing rains.
He said water level in a dam that is posing danger at the Patel farm is reducing as regulated discharge of water continues.
The Governor was addressing journalists alongside Water CS Simon Chelugui and other local leaders after a tour of dams within Patel Farm in Solai, Subukia Sub-County.
CS Chelugui noted that some dams were built during colonial times and the national government will work with counties to inspect dams.
The CS said they will inspect materials used, whether they were built on water ways and if engineers who oversaw their construction were licenced.
Mr Chelugui delivered a message of condolences from President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
He added that the national government will work with the county towards holding a memorial and prayer service for the Patel Dam burst victims in a date to be communicated.
