Construction for Ultra Modern Market worth Ksh 600 Million to begin
Efforts to construct an Ultra-modern market at the Fire station grounds Nakuru East sub-county nears reality.
Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga today handed over the new site to the contractor in a groundbreaking ceremony attended by the county Governor H.E Lee Kinyanjui and his Deputy Dr. Erick Korir.
The 4-story complex building at a cost of Ksh 600 Million funded by the National Government is expected to host over 3000 traders.
The project is expected to be complete in one year.
The new market will have sufficient parking and a daycare center for traders with young children. This will be a reprieve to several traders operating in the current air market.
Mr Hinga said the market would provide a dignified, safe and secure business space for traders and residents in the area and improve the economy of the county.
The PS mentioned that the National Government was in the process of tendering a housing scheme in Bondeni to provide more infrastructural facilities for the area upgrade.
H.E the Governor appreciated support from the National government for funding the project noting that it was one among the various projects being implemented to boost trade in the county.
“We are encouraging entrepreneurship and manufacturing in the county because we want to be globally competitive,” he remarked “this market is therefore among the several we are constructing to ensure traders have access to market their products,”
The county boss thanked the traders for their cooperation and backing his directives that had earlier seen them shift to Afraha Stadium Annex as a precautionary measure to curb further spread of Covid-19 which he noted was a sign of good leadership.
He encouraged the traders to be vigilant and practice Covid-19 preventive guidelines as advised by the Ministry of Health to guarantee safety.
Joining the ceremony was the County Commissioner Erastus Mbui,CECs,COs and other county officials.
