Exchange program on Education between County Government and UK on course

The County Government of Nakuru through the Department of Education ICT and e-government under the leadership of H.E Governor Susan Kihika is seeking to partner with the United Kingdom (UK) Government through an exchange program on matters of Education.

 For 17 years now, 34 schools, 20 from Njoro and 14 within the municipality in Nakuru have been having an exchange program with schools from the UK through the mutual collaboration between the Egerton Primary school in Kenya and the Egerton Primary school in the UK.

The partnership involves sharing standard programs where hundreds of teachers from the UK visits Kenya and get involved in all the activities carried out in schools and classes and vice versa.

During the visits, the team explores common projects, conducts team teaching, and own teaching, participate in games with the kids, conducting meetings with the teachers basically to share experiences and learn best practice from each other.

During the discussion, the CECM in charge of  Education ICT and e- Government Hon Zipporah Ngugi assured the team of the support as a county pointing out that the program will be vital for the county government, especially on ECDE which is the back born in the development of every child and also on matters education in the County.

Hon. Ngugi also highlighted programs and projects in ECDE among them feeding programs, construction of classrooms, issuance of instructional materials, age-appropriate furniture and play equipment, and digitization of the ECED centres to provide a conducive learning environment for the young learners.

She further stated that with the current curriculum, the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) the program will be of great significance and that the stakeholders, teachers and learners will get to learn more not only on classwork but also will interact socially, physically, and geographically.

The Chief Officer Mr John Koech in his remarks echoed CECM sentiments noting that the county will offer its full support and is committed to partnering with the UK government through the program for learning purposes.

The chairman of the Education Committee at the County Assembly Hon PM Njoroge also appreciated the initiative saying it will be a motivation, especially for the teachers and learners in the ECDE schools in the County.

Ms. Alison Hooper the head teacher Egerton Primary School in the UK and Ms Florence Karura Former Head teacher Egerton Primary School in Kenya thanked the county for the warm welcome and readiness to partner with them.

Also present was Hon Philip Wanjohi, the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Lare ward.
