
Nakuru County flags off medical consignment to 200 facilities

Nakuru County Government has flagged off a consignment of sh49 Million worth of medicine to health facilities across to the county.
The consignment is composed of various types of drugs worth sh27 million and non-pharmaceuticals amounting to sh22 million to Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 low-volume hospitals.
While flagging off the medicines, Nakuru County Deputy Governor H.E David Kones said Governor Susan Kihika is keen to improve healthcare services by among other things ending the shortage of drugs and medical essentials in all public health facilities.
“This occasion signifies our determination to end the shortage of drugs and ensure that our people are served well in our health facilities. We are also looking forward to procuring one more consignment before the end of this Financial Year to cover for the months of July and August,” he stated.
Kones added that Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) would deliver an additional consignment worth Kshs 5 million within the next week, bringing the total value of the current consignment to Kshs 54 million.
This marks the third tranche of medicines and non-pharmaceuticals that the County Government of Nakuru is disbursing to hospitals.
In March 2023, the county disbursed a consignment of drugs and non-pharmaceuticals worth Kshs 50 million which was a quick succession to a consignment of medicines and non-pharmaceuticals worth Kshs 45 million it had flagged off on March 1 of the same year.
The County had earlier in November 2022 flagged off another consignment of Kshs48 million to health facilities across the county.
On his part, County Executive for Health Jackline Osoro assured the residents of Nakuru that in the future the medicines will be delivered on time to all the health facilities.
She reiterated Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment towards delivering quality healthcare services to all the people across the county.
“We want to assure all the residents of Nakuru that going forward will have more prompt delivery of medicine and non-pharmaceuticals to health facilities across the county to serve our people better,” Osoro said.
The County Secretary, Dr. Samuel Mwaura also highlighted the Government’s efforts to modernize healthcare facilities, acquire new technologies, and increase access to healthcare services as part of the health sector reforms going on in the County.
“We have promoted our healthcare workers and are still committed to having more health sector reforms to improve patient care, streamline operations, and empower our healthcare professionals to provide the best possible outcomes for our residents,” said Dr Mwaura.

Also joining the Deputy Governor during the flag-off was Chief Officer for Medical Services, Dr John Murima, Chief Officer for Public Health, Alice Abuki among other county health managers.
