Nakuru County youth to benefit from business mentorship programs

The County Government of Nakuru in partnership with Ajiry and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has launched a program to mentor and train youths from different wards across the county.

The training sessions are mainly based on Generate Your Business Idea (GYBI) and Start your business (SYB). The current cohort of youths is drawn from different wards in the Nakuru Town East sub-county.

The Chief Officer for Youths, Sports and Talents Ms Stellah Mwaura said that youths are mentored on soft skills as well as basic computer operations to empower them to generate their own business ideas and start their own businesses. This is in line with Governor Susan Kihika’s agenda for continuous skills development for youth in Nakuru. The program has been ongoing for the last two months now.

Martin Gichinga from the Office of the Governor emphasised the importance of having early training on computer skills to empower our youths and improve their skills for the current market. He encouraged the trainees to pass on the knowledge they’ve acquired to others.

In attendance was Director for Youth Affairs Mr Josphat Kimemia, Dr Isaac Kiema – National Programme Coordinator ILO and Ajiry Centre Manager Victoria Kithongo.

CO Stellah told the trainees that the county will partner with financial institutions to offer financial advice and affordable banking services to the youths.

Director Kimemia promised them that the county will hold them and connect them with opportunities available in the county.

Mr Martin said Governor Susan Kihika is up to the task of how to uplift the lives of the young people in this county and change their stories once and for all.

Ms. Victoria encouraged the trainees on the importance of being updated with online opportunities drawn from their previous training offered by the department.
