
Distribution of sports equipment and youth empowerment items in Rongai Sub-county

Nakuru County Deputy Governor, H.E. David Kones, was in attendance at the thrilling Mashujaa Day Cup tournament, organized by County Assembly Majority Leader, Hon. Alex Langat. The sports extravaganza that took place at Ogilgei Primary School in Mosop Ward proved to be a day packed with excitement and sportsmanship.
The competition showcased multiple teams, engaging in spirited clashes on both the football and volleyball fronts. The prowess displayed was remarkable, with Sumeek Ladies and Juhudi FC emerging as the champions in the ladies and men’s football categories. In volleyball, Salgaa FC took the top honors. These victors earned more than bragging rights; they were awarded with trophies, football jerseys, balls, and cash prizes.
Deputy Governor Kones seized the opportunity to convey warm regards from H.E. Governor Susan Kihika to the spirited teams and the residents of Rongai. He highlighted the pivotal role of sports in the lives of young individuals, emphasizing how it effectively combats idleness, deters drug abuse, and contributes to the reduction of criminal activities within society.
This event is part of a broader initiative championed by Governor Kihika, focusing on sports development and youth empowerment. As a testament to the commitment to this cause, sports equipment such as football uniforms, balls, and nets were distributed to the five wards in Rongai Sub-county. Furthermore, the sports kitty and youth empowerment programs took the lead in delivering much-needed youth empowerment items, which included three 100-seater tents and 300 chairs.
Josephine Atieno Achieng, the County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender, and Social Services, reaffirmed the department’s dedication and unwavering support in nurturing talents across Nakuru County.
Majority Leader Hon. Alex Langat expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the leadership’s steadfast commitment to supporting sports and youth development, a move aimed at addressing the pressing issue of unemployment in the county.
Acknowledging the positive impact of the tournament, Mr. Francis Oliele, representing the Federation of Kenya Football Nakuru Branch, lauded Hon. Alex Langat for orchestrating an event that brought youth together, fostering a spirit of love and peace.
Ms. Stellah Mwaura, the Chief Officer for Youth and Sports, applauded the amicable relationship between the legislative and executive branches, which is instrumental in making youth sports a top priority in the county. She expressed optimism for increased support for sporting activities in the future.
The tournament saw the active participation of various notable figures, including MCAs Hellen Chemutai (Visoi), Hon. Nixon Murugu (Solai), Hon. De Gaulle Naburuki (Soin), and Hon. Isaac Rotok (Menengai West). Hon. Hawa Ibrahim from the office of the Governor, Ward Administrators, Sports Officers, FKF representatives, and Governor’s Coordinators also added their presence and support to make this sports celebration an unforgettable event.
