Nakuru Spearheads Affordable Housing Project (AHP)

Nakuru County Government is committed to the provision of decent and affordable houses to its residents through a collaborative effort between the National Government in the Affordable Housing Project (AHP).
The Chief Officer of Housing and Urban Development Kamau Kuria accompanied officials from the State Department of Housing to Elburgon in Molo Sub-county and Bahati ward in Bahati Sub-county for a site visit to assess the state of the Affordable Housing Project. He thanked H.E Governor Susan Kihika for her efforts in reclaiming public land that foresaw the fruition of the project.
The CO further noted the project has created a source of livelihood for over 1000 artisans who are also gaining different skills. The skills are crucial as the county plans to accredit local artisans through a collaborative effort with the National Construction Authority (NCA).
Affordable Housing not only promotes economic gain through employment but also serves as a pivot to robust developments in the area. Additionally, it is a focal point for revitalizing the urban Elburgon elevates to a Township.
In this joint effort between the two institutions, Nakuru envisages the provision of over 30,000 houses to its residents. Nakuru has made tremendous trends and is a mirror in Affordable Housing with 609 units in Nakuru East Sub-county, 220 in Molo Sub-county and 220 in Naivasha Sub-county set to commence.
According to the contractor, the site will serve as fuel for skill gain as they are in collaboration with the county government of Nakuru in enging Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in civil works like pavements etc.
He further highlighted the 220 units will be ready by April and Kenyans can take advantage of the BOMA Yangu App to own a unit.
Accompanying Kuria were the State Director for Housing Ondieki, the County Director of Housing Benard Maina, Ag. Director Land Adminstration Elizabeth Munyui, Molo and Elbugorn DCC and sub-county admins.
