Nakuru County and Midrift Hurinet Unite for Peaceful Youth Engagement Through Sports

County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender, and Social Services, Josephine Atieno officially graced the Midrift Hurinnet Finals promoting Peace and Social Cohesion through Sports at Afraha High School.

Kenyatta Secondary Boy’s team and Player Makers FC Girls emerged winners of the tournament in the finals. The Boy’s team won against Player Makers on penalties 6-5 and the Girl’s team thrashed Kenyatta Secondary 6-0. The winners were awarded trophies, jerseys, balls and certificates of participation.

Joseph Omondi, the Executive Director of Midrift Hurrinet, highlighted that the event facilitated a peace and security dialogue between the youth and local law enforcement agencies in Nakuru Town West and East.

CEC Atieno stressed the crucial role of fostering peace and social cohesion among youth to enhance their capacities and contribute to reducing crime rates in the community. She urged Midrift Hurinnet and the GAME team to extend this initiative to other sub-counties in support of youth.

The CEO of GAME, Simon Prahm, lauded Midrift Hurrinet and the County Government for ensuring there is peace and social cohesion among youth in Nakuru through sports. He said he also looks forward to creating more job opportunities to support young people.

Deputy County Commissioner Simiyu Were commended the good peace coexistence during the festive season since many youths were engaged in various sporting activities.

The tournament started 6 months ago and brought sports enthusiasts together to participate in football and basketball for both boys and girls.
