The meeting served as a platform to discuss key issues, including the maintenance and improvement of city roads, which have posed significant hurdles to the operators’ activities.
One of the primary concerns raised during the meeting was the need for better cooperation between tuktuk operators and enforcement officers to tackle security issues and harassment incidents. The operators emphasized the importance of finding effective strategies to ensure their safety and smooth operations.
Chaired by Nakuru County Tuktuk Association Chairman, Mr Joseph Wahome, the meeting also marked the launch of Nakuru tuktuk operators’ identification numbers to streamline operations and enhance accountability within the sector.
The County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Stephen Kuria announced plans to establish an Enterprise Fund to provide financial support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), including tuktuk operators, empowering them in their businesses.
Mr Thabanja commended the operators for their efforts in improving road behaviour and stressed the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, urging them to refrain from obstructing pedestrian walkways. Plans were announced to install signage indicating “drop-off and go” points to promote orderliness and safety.
