County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services Josephine Atieno joined hundreds of widows from Nakuru Town West and East Sub-Counties to celebrate International Widows Day at Shabab Social Hall in Shabab Ward.

International Widows Day observed annually on June 23rd, aims to raise awareness of the human rights violations that widows suffer in many countries following the death of their spouses.

Ms Atieno praised the unity among the widows of Nakuru Town West and East Sub-Counties, highlighting their efforts to protect their rights. She reassured them of Governor Susan Kihika’s administration’s commitment to supporting widows across the county.

The widows appreciated the leadership of H.E Governor Susan Kihika enabling them to access the social hall and celebrate the International Widows Day at ease and of no cost.

The CEC told the groups the county government’s plans to empower widows with business training and start-ups enabling them to earn decent income generation.

The members present were served well with food as they celebrated the day at the Social Hall and many were excited.

The event was attended by representatives from the Department of Social Services and social self-help group leaders.
