
Agri-Business Coffee Bar With Youths across the county during IYW 2023

The Nakuru County Government, in collaboration with the Cereal Growers Association (CGA), convened a dialogue coffee bar session with youth from Kuresoi North, Kuresoi South, Molo, Njoro, Rongai, Subukia, Bahati, Nakuru Town East, and Nakuru Town West sub-counties at Menengai Social Hall.
The objective of the session was to encourage young people to explore opportunities in agri-business, which remains untapped despite the high youth unemployment rate. The discussion emphasized the importance of providing training in agribusiness and establishing marketing connections for the youth.
The coffee bar event was organized as one of the activities marking International Youth Week (IYW), providing a platform for the youth to engage in conversations with relevant stakeholders.
County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender, and Social Services Josephine Achieng urged the youth to embrace agri-business as a means of achieving economic empowerment. The theme of the coffee bar was Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA) “empowering youth agripreneuers.”
Chief Officer for Agriculture Newton Mwaura emphasized the need for the youths to tap opportunities, especially in agriculture for them to be self-employed and become economically empowered.
The CECM for Education Hon. Zipporah Ngugi highlighted areas where the youth of Nakuru County have benefitted. She cited Vocational Training Centers as an example where the county government has put more effort to ensure that youth can access useful technical skills.
Chief Officer for Youth and Sports Ms Stellah Mwaura encouraged youths to embrace agri-business since it is a source and backbone for economic empowerment.
Others in attendance were Chief Officers Stellah Mwaura (Youth and Sports ), Newton Mwaura (Agriculture) John Koech (Education), Director of Youth Affairs Josephat Kimemia as well as representatives from Ajiry, DanChurchAid (DCA), Youth Fund, Tribeless Youth, MG Innovation Hub, Realz Hand of Love, Team leader WFP Michael Njagi, and the Team leader of CGA, Calvince Onyuka.
