Written by Nancy Kihara
The County Government of Nakuru in collaboration with Flone Initiative has today conducted helmet safety training on bodaboda riders within Subukia Sub-county.
Flone Initiative is a women-led NGO, working towards the creation of safe, sustainable, and accessible public transportation spaces for women and vulnerable groups in Africa, by influencing behavioral change, generating knowledge, and movement-building.
The three-day training which is taking place in Bahati, Njoro, and Nakuru Town East Sub-counties aims at educating the riders on the importance of wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle as well as adhering to the laws on helmet wear and enforcement practices.
Representing the County Government, Hon Peter Kang’ethe noted that Governor Susan Kihika’s administration is at the forefront to support, improve, and promote road safety among the riders.
Elizabeth Njoki, the organization’s coordinator noted that more focus is being placed on the wearing of helmets saying motorcycle users are at a greater risk than other road users during traffic accidents as only 36% of the riders wear a helmet.
Through today’s training, twenty riders from the Sub-county have received Helmets.
Also present was Corporal Miltone Arwa from the National Police Service.
