The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Youth, Sports, Gender, Social Services and Inclusivity Josephine Atieno represented Governor Susan Kihika in marking the International Women’s Day with the theme “Invest In Women, Accelerate Progress” at the Nakuru Women’s Prison.
The CECM delivered greetings and gifts from the Governor, a strong advocate for Gender Equality, emphasising the growing influence of women in leadership stemming from their hardworking nature and resilience.
Addressing the female inmates, CECM Atieno urged them to recognize their worth in a male-dominated society. She promised to support the talented among them with tools of trade.
The Area MCA, Hon Benard Maina, thanked the partners for coming on board to support the women inmates on their special day. He promised that his office would continue supporting the female inmates with necessities.
Elizabeth Juma, the Chief Magistrate at Nakuru Law Courts, emphasized that ladies are still highly valued in society and should strive to make change even from within the rehabilitation centre. The Magistrate commended how prisons were no longer discipline centres but correctional facilities.
Present were representatives from Equity Bank, Free The Girl Initiative, Team Rani, Overcomers, Clean Start, magistrates and prison commanders from various prisons.
