County seeks to address unemployment through entrepreneurship

The County Government of Nakuru in collaboration with the British Council and the Youth Enterprise Development Fund ( YEDF) is looking forward to addressing issues affecting the youth in the county through the Kenya Young Entrepreneurs Connect (K-YEC) program.

K- YEC is a community and Youth engagement program that is aimed at bringing together young people for structured mentorship, peer-to-peer learning and business networking.

Under the partnership, the county will host a 2-day forum on the 2nd and 3rd of March 2023 to bring together youth-oriented organizations and the youth to discuss issues affecting the youth and find youth-led solutions through entrepreneurship.

Youth CECM Ms Josephine Achieng noted that the administration under the leadership of H.E Susan Kihika will support the young people and have partnerships to create a bigger impact in employment creation among the youth in the county.

“We will work together to empower youth to create a decent livelihood for themselves to help reduce the cases of young people engaging in criminal activities and use of drug and substance abuse,” added the CECM.

Her sentiments were supported by Chief Officer Ms Stella Mwaura who noted that the administration will further look to incorporate sports and creative arts as an income earner for the youth.

YEDF CEO Mr Josiah Moraisi and British Council Education Lead Ms Monica Blagescu highlighted that the partnership will also champion for development and strengthening of vibrant youth entrepreneurship ecosystems.
