County to reintegrate ex-convicts back into the society

Nakuru County Government is planning to work with reformed ex-convicts and help with their successful reintegration into the community.

A team of reformed ex-convicts have today, accompanied by Nakuru County Probation Officers, Social Welfare Officer, and Human rights officers held a meeting with the CECM in charge of Sports, Gender and Social Services, Josephine Achieng. Their discussions revolved around possible activities to engage the reformed ex-convicts.

The CECM said that ex-convicts belong to the community and must be treated equally regardless of the crimes they once committed. Acceptance by the community will give them a chance to improve and make a difference in their lives.

The government provides inmates with various skills such as carpentry, tailoring and plumbing among others. The CECM has promised that the Nakuru County Government is ready to support the reformed ex-convicts with activities that will enable them to earn an income as they use the skills learned while in prison. This will ensure a smooth transition when they rejoin society.

The CECM added that this initiative would help complete integration back into society and urged the public not to abandon or stigmatize ex-convicts.
