County to work with partners to bring more youth into agriculture

More than 12,000 individual farmers and 133 farmer groups within the Dairy, Pyrethrum and Aquaculture value chains in the county have benefitted under the Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme II (ASDSP).

The programme is being implemented in all eleven sub-counties and seeks to develop sustainability within the three value chains for improved income, employment, food and nutrition security.

Additionally, it further promotes increased productivity, strengthens entrepreneurial skills among the value chain actors, improves access to the market and strengthens structures and capacities for coordination in the agricultural sector.

During the consultative meeting with officials from ASDSP II, Agriculture CECM Mr Leonard Bor appreciated the impact the project has had in improving the livelihoods of farmers in the county.

“We will continue working together to create a synergy and avoid duplication of work between the program and the county”, added the CECM

Mr Bor further reiterated H.E Governor Susan Kihikas’ commitment to empowering the youth hence the need to encourage more youth to venture into agriculture as an income earner.

Also present was the Chief Officer in charge of Agriculture Hon. Kibet Kurgat and Dr Micahel Chruiyot the Chief Officer for Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Services.
