Deputy Governor David Kones flags off the KICOSCA Team

The Nakuru County Government is confident of major sporting success as it sends off a strong team to compete in the 11th Edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games, set for November 23 – 30, 2024, in Kakamega County.
With 165 participants ready to showcase their skills in ten disciplines including football, volleyball, darts, choir, ajua, tug of war, table tennis, athletics, and badminton, the county is optimistic about improving its medal tally this year.
During the flag-off event at the County Headquarters, Deputy Governor H.E David Kones, representing Governor Susan Kihika, encouraged the team to remain disciplined and determined during the tournament.
He highlighted how the KICOSCA games provide a platform for counties to bond, learn, and share experiences on devolution, its challenges, successes and how to advance under the devolved governance system.
His remarks were echoed by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services, Josephine Atieno. She urged the team to perform exceptionally well and strive for victory in the games.
The County Chief Officer for Youth, Sports and Talent Pastor Alex Maina lauded the entire team management and players for the commitment they put in during the training session and thus believes they will emerge winners during this year’s Competition.
Hon Alex Bor who doubles as the Kiptororo MCA and the chair of the Nakuru County Assembly Sports Committee assured members that he will champion the policy to increase the sports funds come next year to enable more sports disciplines to be realised here in Nakuru County during and after the leadership of HE Governor Susan Kihika.
Both Chief Officers for Tourism and Public Participation John Koech and Edward Gitau, wished the teams best of luck during the event.
The Director of Youth Affairs who is also the acting Director-Sports Mr Josephat Kimemia lauded the leadership of H.E Governor Susan Kihika for supporting this year’s activities effectively unlike the previous years.
The event ended with songs and dances as the players chanted “Mama wa Kazi anaweza” and appreciated her support in sporting activities.
