Farmers in Kihingo Ward, Njoro Sub-county took part in the pre-planting season field day aimed at equipping farmers with necessary information required before the planting season begins.
Among the services offered was the plant health clinic which is used to capacity-build farmers and help promote the adoption of good agricultural practices, pest surveillance, early response, and response post-outbreaks of pest and diseases.
Currently, to support pest and disease surveillance, the County has put in place plant clinics with plant doctors across the county since control of plant pests and diseases is key to ensuring food security and nutrition.
Additionally, it supports trade as well as sustainable resource management for farmers. The field day attracted over 600 farmers and over 30 stakeholders.
Farmers have also been supported by the county in preparation for the planting season through the last-mile distribution of subsidized fertilizer.
Among the stores operationalized include Kiptororo and Keringet in Kuresoi North and Kuresoi South Sub-counties as part of the satellite stores established to supplement the distribution process in the sub-counties.
The last-mile distribution of fertilizer is part of the county’s promise to empower farmers by ensuring they have access to subsidized fertilizer.
The program aims to ease the farmer’s burden in accessing subsidized fertilizer by having the fertilizer near them and in good time reducing the overall cost of production.
The extension officers have also been trained on the technical know-how during the redemption of the e-voucher during the purchase of the fertilizer which will ensure a continuous last-mile distribution of fertilizer across the county.
