The County Executive Committee Member for Youth Sports, Gender, and Social Services, Josephine Atieno has today convened a meeting with the eleven sub-county sports officers to discuss the upcoming 9th edition of the Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA), scheduled to take place in Kilifi County in April this year.
The KYISA games are an annual event for youth aged 18-23 who may have missed mainstream scouting opportunities in organized sports. These individuals are required not to have participated in higher learning institutions sports or elite clubs, including Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA), Division 1, Division 2, National Super, and Premier leagues.
This year’s edition will feature three disciplines: Football for boys and girls, volleyball for boys, and basketball for girls. Each of the 47 counties is tasked with organizing competitions at the grassroots level (Ward level), culminating in county-level selections to form teams for the national KYISA games scheduled for April 14th-21st, 2024.
During the meeting, Josephine Atieno highlighted the tournament’s societal impact, emphasizing its role in promoting peace and national cohesion among communities. She also emphasized how the games would serve as a platform to identify, nurture, develop, and promote sporting talents across the county.
Pastor Alex Maina, Chief Officer for Youth, Sports, Talent and Resource Mobilization expressed the wish that the selection process should be transparent and fair to ensure that every eligible player gets a chance to showcase their talents at the grassroots level starting from the lower side of Tinet, Kiptororo wards in Kuresoi South Sub County towards Maiela and Naivasha East in Naivasha Sub-county.
The Sports Officer promised that all stakeholders from FKF officials, referees and coaches will be consolidated in the trials to ensure that everyone is brought on board.
