H.E. Governor Susan Kihika has delivered on a key promise in her manifesto with the launch of two Level 4 hospital projects in Kuresoi North and Rongai Sub Counties. These transformative healthcare facilities, which had been long-awaited by the local communities, will greatly improve access to specialized medical services and bring healthcare closer to the people.
Rongai Sub County is set to benefit from a new Level 4 hospital, a project that had remained stalled for years. The hospital will be built at a site in Visoi Ward, originally earmarked for a trauma Centre during the presidency of the late Mwai Kibaki, before devolution. Despite two previous county administrations, the project was not realized, leaving the community without the promised healthcare facility until now.
Rongai residents were filled with joy during the official handover of the site to the contractor. Livingstone Sawe, a local resident, described the development as “a dream come true.” The success story was shared by many in the community, who have long hoped for improved healthcare services.
The new hospital, estimated to cost Ksh 249.8 million, is scheduled to be completed within 24 months. Once finished, the facility will provide essential healthcare services, including outpatient care, inpatient services, maternity care, and more. This will significantly reduce the need for residents to travel long distances for medical treatment.
During the ceremony, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health, Roselyn Mungai, emphasized the importance of utilizing existing healthcare resources in the meantime. She pointed out that Rongai Sub County currently has 24 dispensaries, including the recently operationalized Ng’ondu Dispensary, which was opened last month under Governor Kihika’s administration.
Ms. Mungai encouraged the residents to make use of these facilities, adding that increased demand and usage will attract more resources to further enhance healthcare services in the area.
Meanwhile, in Kuresoi North Sub County, residents are celebrating the commencement of construction of a new Level 4 hospital is ongoing fulfilling another major commitment in Governor Kihika’s healthcare agenda.
The Ksh 248.2 million hospital project was officially handed over to the contractor today in a ceremony led by CECM for Health Roselyn Mungai and Kiptororo Ward MCA Hon. Alex Bor. The event was attended by an enthusiastic crowd of community members, eager to witness the start of the long-anticipated development.
The new two-storey hospital will include a wide range of facilities, including an outpatient block, a 100-bed inpatient department, two theatres, a maternity wing, laboratories, and other specialized healthcare services. The facility will significantly improve access to quality healthcare in Kuresoi North, serving thousands of residents in the region once completed.
“This development marks a significant step in improving healthcare infrastructure and services for the people of Kuresoi North,” said Hon. Leonard Bor, the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, who also attended the ceremony. He added that the new facility will play a critical role in enhancing the well-being of the local population by bringing essential healthcare services closer to them.
Both hospital projects are the result of coordinated efforts by various stakeholders. In addition to CECM for Water and Environment, Nelson Maara also attended the site handover in Rongai with both ceremonies attended by Chief Officers Dr John Murima (Medical Services), Edward Gitau (Public Participation), Samuel Ndegwa (Infrastructure), Gladys Kamuren (Gender), Kibet Kurgat (Cooperatives), and other key government representatives.
These leaders, hospital management committees and local administration teams shared their commitment to ensuring the projects are completed on time and to the highest standards.
Governor Susan Kihika’s administration has made healthcare a top priority, with the construction of these two hospitals serving as a clear testament to that commitment.
The new facilities will provide better healthcare access for residents of Kuresoi North and Rongai Sub Counties, fulfilling a crucial promise H.E. Governor Susan Kihika made during her campaign.
As the construction of these hospitals moves forward, the people of Nakuru County can look forward to a future where healthcare services are more accessible, specialized, and of higher quality.
Governor Kihika’s leadership ensures that the county continues to make significant strides in healthcare development, benefiting all its residents.
