Governor Susan Kihika Meets Ward Climate Change Committees From the 55 Nakuru County Wards

Nakuru County is fully committed to leading the charge against Climate Change where a policy and legal frameworks have been put in place in defining the approaches towards climate change mitigation.

Nakuru County Governor H.E Susan Kihika today hosted members of ward climate change committees from all 55 wards of Nakuru County at Nyayo Gardens where she appealed to the Nakuru County Assembly Members (MCAs) to advocate for allocation of not less than 2.5% of the total development budget to go towards Climate Change actions.

Nakuru County through the Department of Environment and other partners has already trained the Ward Climate Change Committees and they’re now on course to build community resilience as they execute their plans to mitigate climate change to make Nakuru County safe for generations to come.

Speaking when she met the County Climate Change Steering Committee, County Climate Change Planning Committee and Ward Climate Change Planning Committees at Nyayo Gardens, the Governor said, the County Government, allocated sh88 million for Climate Change mitigation in this financial year which is insufficient.

And to ensure accountability, transparency, and a unified approach, Governor Kihika said the county has established a Climate Change Unit. This unit will work tirelessly to monitor progress, set realistic targets, and enact policies that prioritize environmental conservation and protection.

The Governor further revealed that the County Government will actively engage with the local, national, regional, and global community to forge partnerships and agreements that transcend borders to reduce carbon emissions, protect ecosystems, and promote sustainable development.

The Governor was accompanied by the Deputy Governor H.E David Kones, Chief of Staff Dr Peter Ketyenya, CECMs Dr Nelson Maara (Environment), Stephen Kuria (Trade), Leonard Bor (Agriculture), Chief Officers, Kennedy Mungai (Climate Change), Edward Gitau (Public Participation), Rosemary Kimani (Tourism & Culture) and Nakuru County Assembly Committee members for Environment led by Hon Rose Mutai among other county officials.
