Keringet Sports Academy construction begins, ready for use in March 2022

The construction of Sh124 million Keriget Sports Academy in Keringet, Kuresoi South sub-County is fast taking shape. The contractor is now clearing, excavating and levelling the field as well as erecting a chainlink fence.

Phase one works entail the construction of running tracks, standard pitch, generator house, toilet blocks, among other areas. This will ensure athletes utilize the facility at Ndabibit Village, 2,800 meters above sea level, as other works progress.

The facility will serve local and international athletes who have been experiencing a lack of modern training facility and professional coaching. Previously, athletes from the region had to use roads or travel to other counties for training.

The high altitude training facility will also attract international athletes and scouts who will use it at a fee with a trickle-down effect on the local economy expected.

“The first phase is expected to be complete within 10 months,” said Chief Officer for Sports Dr William Migwe during a progress inspection tour in late April.

The development of sports infrastructure projects is in line with Governor Lee Kinyanjui’s manifesto on developing and naturing sports talents across the county.

The County Government of Nakuru has also constructed and rehabilitated, Bahati, Naivasha, Gilgil, Molo, Rongai, Kamukunji sports grounds among others.

Governor Lee’s administration is also reclaiming grabbed stadiums whereby it has embarked on a mission to survey, reclaim, catalogue and seek title deeds for stadiums.

Also present Sports Director, Ms Alice Gekonde and her Public Works counterpart, Engineer Muchemi Maina, officers from Athletics Kenya and local community members, among them athletes.
