Kihingo Ward set to benefit from a 52 Million Modern Market
Written by Annette Njoroge and Elizabeth Wanjiku
Over 500 traders in Kihingo Ward, Njoro Subcounty, are set to benefit from the on-going construction of a Modern Market, which is part of the Economic Stimulus Project (ESP), a joint initiative between the National and County Governments.
The 52-million-shilling facility promises to significantly improve working conditions for traders, boost local commerce, and enhance the economic activities of the community, thereby contributing to the overall development of Njoro. The modern facility will feature a two-storey building, an ablution block, ample parking space, and dedicated lactation areas for young mothers, providing a safe and conducive environment for both traders and customers.
In addition to the Kihingo ESP Market, similar projects will be launched in Nessuit and Mauche Wards within the subcounty. The market stands as a testament to Governor Kihika’s commitment to creating a dignified business environment for traders. The market committee has expressed its gratitude for the project and is eager to move into the new facility.
During the inspection of works by delegation from the County Government, led by Trade County Executive Member Hon. Stephen Muiruri, expressed gratitude to H.E. Governor Susan Kihika for successfully lobbying for the project, noting that Kihingo Market is the 15th market under construction in the county.
Mr. Mwangi, a local resident, highlighted that the market’s construction has come at a crucial time and will address the dangers posed by traders who previously operated along the Njoro-Nakuru highway, where they faced serious safety risks every Sunday. The new market will also provide ample space for people to trade every day in a safer environment.
Once completed the Modern Market will lift the face of Kihingo which is key in H. E Governor Susan Kihika’s Urban Regeneration Agenda which aims to revitalize dilapidated urban centres accross the County.
Kihingo residents are also benefiting from Survey works that were initiated in late August which will address long-standing land issues and facilitate the issuance of title Deeds.
The team mirrors the commitment of H. E Governor Susan Kihika in ensuring high – quality work and timely completion of projects.
The delegation included Chief Officer for Lands and Physical Planning Ms. Stella Mwaura, Chief Officer for Housing and Urban Development Arch. Kamau Kuria, Chief Officer for Education Ms. Rosemary Kimani, Nakuru City Manager Gitau Thabanja, Nakuru Public Service Board Secretary Joyce Ndegwa and Martin Gichinga from the Governor’s office.
