The City Management, in collaboration with the County Department of Environment and Kenya Prisons, has successfully executed a massive tree planting exercise during the ongoing rainy season. This endeavor saw over 7,000 tree seedlings planted along the Mololine-Gioto dumpsite showcasing a strong commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
This initiative aligns with H.E. Governor Susan Kihika’s environmental agenda, which emphasizes enhancing green cover throughout the County and part of the broader national commitment to planting 15 billion trees, aiming to combat environmental degradation and promote a healthier ecosystem.
By increasing the green cover, the initiative will greatly contribute to combating environmental challenges, improving air quality, and enhancing biodiversity.
The collaborative efforts witnessed during the exercise highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges.
While leading the exercise, Commissioner of Prisons Joseph Saitoti emphasized that the initiative demonstrates our dedication to environmental stewardship and our responsibility to future generations.
“By working together, we will impact our environment and contribute to a greener and healthier planet,” he remarked.
He said that such partnerships are crucial for the successful implementation of large-scale environmental projects and ensuring long-term sustainability.
The initiative not only marks a crucial step towards fulfilling the County’s environmental goals but also serves as a model for community-driven conservation efforts.
Also present were Environment Officers, members of the London Ward Climate Change Committee and MESPPT NGO.
