Nakuru County Government and Other Stakeholders Launch Phase 2 of Maai Mahiu Tragedy Recovery

The County Government of Nakuru, in collaboration with the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and other stakeholders, have commenced the second phase of post-tragedy recovery efforts in Maai Mahiu as promised by H.E Governor Susan Kihika.
The central focus of this phase is the rehabilitation of roads to facilitate smoother transportation and support economic recovery for the local community as well as enhance the safety and accessibility in Maai Mahiu.The second phase follows the completion of the initial phase, which concentrated on the rescue and recovery of victims
Several organizations have played a vital role in complementing government efforts including Cornerstone Preparatory Academy, who will provide the fuel required for the road rehabilitation efforts and ensuring that KDF and National Youth Service (NYS) personnel receive meals during their operations.
The combined efforts of national and county entities, alongside local organizations, exemplify a robust partnership aimed at rebuilding and strengthening the community. Governor Susan Kihika’s administration remains dedicated to seeing through the recovery and development projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
The ongoing efforts demonstrate the governments approach to addressing the aftermath of the tragedy and building a more resilient future for Maai Mahiu.With improved infrastructure, the region will not only recover but also be better prepared to handle future challenges.
Present during the meeting were County Executive Member for Infrastructure Engineer Michael Kamau, KDF Brigadier Joseph Mutua, NYS staff, representatives from the offices of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) and representatives from Cornerstone Preparatory Academy.
