The County Government of Nakuru is committed to promoting boxing through increased investment, talent development, and strategic partnerships to establish the County as a national powerhouse.
County Executive for Sports, Elga Riaga, said the move will help elevate Nakuru to a competitive force in combat sports both nationally and internationally.
“As a county, we are fully committed to ensuring that boxing thrives in Nakuru. We will work with the Governor to address these issues immediately so that our athletes are well-prepared for the upcoming competitions in Nanyuki and Kisumu,” said Ms Riaga.
Ms Riaga said that the County administration, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Susan Kihika, is committed to creating opportunities for athletes and supporting the growth of the sport from the grassroots level to the global stage.
She was speaking during a strategic meeting with members of the Nakuru County Boxing Association, who had paid her a courtesy call to discuss securing financial support for the upcoming national boxing competitions in Nanyuki and Kisumu.
“Governor Kihika believes in supporting our youth through sport, and boxing will not be left behind. We are determined to improve facilities, provide the right equipment, and give our referees and boxers the training they need to excel,” she added.
They also addressed the need to develop long-term plans to establish boxing as one of Nakuru’s key sporting disciplines.
The Association chair, Isaac Mbote, stated that they will closely collaborate with the County administration to enhance training standards, both for boxers and referees, through targeted skill development programs. They also highlighted the need to upgrade existing training facilities and other essential equipment, such as punching bags, gloves, shoes, and tracksuits. The pledge reflects Nakuru County’s broader vision of nurturing sporting excellence, creating opportunities for youth, and positioning the county as a hub for talent development in Kenya.
This comes barely a week after Nakuru County hosted a 2025 Boxing Federation of Kenya National League, with its players delivering a stellar performance.
Team Nakuru collected a commendable 17points, finishing fourth overall among twenty-three competing sides.
