Nakuru County, StanMed and Mayo Clinic collaboration to transform healthcare

In a monumental step towards transforming healthcare services in Nakuru County, Deputy Governor H.E David Kones today held a meeting with key figures in the healthcare sector, Dr Luqman Lawal from Mayo Clinic and Ian Okello, the Managing Director, Standard Medical Group (STANMED)
The meeting centred on how the evolving partnership between Mayo Clinic and StanMed- a partner of Nakuru County will improve the Health care facilities of the county and provide cutting-edge technology in Health care services to benefit the residents of Nakuru.
Through this collaboration, Nakuru County Health care facilities will benefit from expertise in the latest digital technology tools such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) that will enhance the quality and efficiency of the Health care services provision.
The implementation of these technologies is also expected to streamline operations, thereby reducing the financial burden on the patients and easing the workload of the healthcare professionals.
Further, the partnership will explore setting up an exchange program that will offer physicians the opportunity to be trained in the latest medical technologies in one of the world’s best medical facilities.
“As Nakuru County, we appreciate this initiative. It will make Nakuru a centre of Health care excellence that other neighbouring counties will come to benchmark from,” the Deputy Governor said.
He added that Nakuru County under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika is committed to transforming Healthcare services by working with partners to reach this goal.
On December 2023, Stanmed signed a Ksh3 billion Memorandum of Understanding with Nakuru County to upgrade facilities and services in Nakuru Referral and Teaching Hospitals.
To transform Healthcare, the governor said the county will commit 40 per cent of its budget to the Health sector, prioritize partnerships to upgrade existing facilities, as well as introduce cutting-edge technology in the Health system.
Also present were Chief Officer-Medical Services John Murima and County Director for Medical Services, Dr. Daniel Wainaina.
