Nakuru County Welcomes New Healthcare Workforce to Meet Growing Demands
Written by Ruth Magak
Nakuru County recently employed a new cohort of healthcare workers to ensure the county is better equipped to meet the growing healthcare demands and ensure that all residents receive timely and effective medical attention. The County’s Department of Health Services has conducted an induction for the 50 healthcare workers who are deployed to various health facilities across the county, bridging the gap in human resources.
This initiative is a fulfillment of H.E. Governor Susan Kihika’s campaign promise to recruit more healthcare workers on improved terms, including permanent and pensionable schemes. This move aligns with her manifesto, which seeks to “Achieve a Productive, Motivated, and Competent Workforce.”
During the induction forum, County Executive Committee Member for Health Roselyn Mungai emphasized the importance of the new team’s role in delivering quality service to Nakuru residents. “Our focus is service delivery. We welcome you on board to bring your medical skills to help us scale our health service delivery performance,” Mungai said. She highlighted how Governor Kihika’s policy reforms are addressing gaps in recruitment, placement, training, promotion, and employment terms.
Chief Officer for Medical Services, Dr. John Murima, guided the new team through the expectations of their roles as public servants, emphasizing the importance of ethical conduct and professional integrity. The County Director of Medical Services, Dr. Daniel Wainaina, detailed the Department of Health’s priorities and strategic plans, showing how the new workers would fit into the broader vision of providing comprehensive healthcare for all.
Dr. Wainaina also explained the operational structure of the Department of Health, which manages 209 health facilities throughout Nakuru County. This detailed orientation helped the new healthcare workers understand their roles within the system and their contribution to the county’s health objectives.
Governor Susan Kihika’s strategic move to expand the healthcare workforce is a critical step towards enhancing service delivery in Nakuru. The induction, managed by the County Health Management Team (CHMT) and human resources unit, ensured the new employees are well-prepared for their roles.
This initiative not only fulfills a key campaign promise but also strengthens Nakuru County’s healthcare infrastructure, making it better equipped to meet the community’s growing needs. The comprehensive training and integration of new healthcare workers underscore the county’s commitment to improving public health and ensuring a healthier future for all residents.
