Written by Nancy Naholi
The County Government of Nakuru has held consultations with the National Housing Corporation on strategies for collaboration on the delivery of housing units in various parts of the county.
Speaking during the meeting, the County Executive Committee Member for Land, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Hon John Kihagi noted that H.E Madam Susan Kihika’s Administration is keen on partnering with NHC in resolving all previous outstanding issues dating back to the defunct local authorities specifically the Nakuru County Council and Molo Town Council.
The CECM confirmed that under the Affordable Housing Programme, the administration is looking to prioritise existing joint ventures with partners with a footprint already on the ground and with a proven record on delivery and NHC represents such an entity that has participated in the development of real estate in Nakuru in the past.
On his part, the Chief Officer for Housing and Urban Development Kamau Kuria reiterated the need for future partners to offer housing products for the lower-income segment that has in the past been neglected.
The NHC team leader QS Robert Ambuku welcomed the cooperation from the County Government in unlocking past pending matters and promised to give the process the support it needs.
Mr Robert Ambuku reiterated the commitment by NHC to partner with Nakuru in offering the various products in their housing menu including rural housing financing, alternative building materials technology and built environment consultancy services.
