
Nakuru Exerts Dominance in Regional Athletics Meet

Nakuru county athletes dominated proceedings at the regional South Rift Cross Country Championships held in Laikipia securing victory in all but one category.
An impressive Vincent Lang’at led 4 compatriots to clinch the first 5 positions in the Senior Men’s 10Km setting the pace for what would be a triumphant day for Nakuru. In the Senior Women’s category, Josephine Chepkirui took first place ahead of her compatriot Joyline Chepng’eno while Kericho’s Joan Chepleting finished third in a fiercely contested race.
In the 6 kilometres junior women’s race, Deborah Chemutai shook off stiff competition from 4 Kericho athletes to clinch victory in a race dominated by Athletes from Kericho with 4 out of the top 5 positions going to them. The Mixed relay team put icing on the cake sealing victory in the penultimate race of the day outclassing a resilient Kericho team.
Ten athletes from Nakuru secured spots to compete at the National Cross Country Championships for an opportunity to represent the nation in the African and World Crosscountry Championships.
An elated CECM for Sports Ms Josephine Achieng commended the team for the sterling performance, raising our flag high in Laikipia.
