Plans Underway as City Glances into the Future of E-Mobility

Nakuru City is advancing its efforts to reduce carbon emissions by installing electrical charging points for electric vehicles in key areas in the City centre.
The city aims to shape a sustainable future aligned with H.E Governor Susan Kihika’s vision of a sustainable environment and innovation through collaboration with Kenya Power and Lighting Company.
The City Manager, Mr Gitau Thabanja, alongside the Director of Revenue, Charles Lwanga, paid a courtesy call to the KPLC Regional Manager in Nakuru to discuss the framework for installing these charging points in key city centre areas.
Mr. Thabanja welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing its crucial role in shaping Nakuru’s sustainable future.
Following the meeting, strategic locations for the charging points were identified, prioritizing accessibility and user convenience.
This initiative will also be integrated into phase two of the non-motorized transport system, a significant step towards promoting e-mobility, fostering a green economy, and addressing climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Mr Thabanja highlighted that beyond emissions reduction, installing these points aims to create modern infrastructure supporting the city’s growing electric vehicle user base.
Director of Revenue, Charles Lwanga, added that the project aligns with Governor Susan Kihika’s sustainability and innovation goals, emphasizing the city’s proactive stance in addressing environmental challenges by reducing the carbon footprint and promoting cleaner energy.
KPLC Regional Manager, Mr. Daniel, expressed enthusiasm for the project and affirmed Kenya Power’s commitment to providing necessary technical support and resources for its success.
This joint effort underscores the city’s dedication to innovative, eco-friendly solutions while positioning Nakuru as a leader in sustainable urban development. Also present at the meeting was the city’s urban planner, Mr. Festus Bor.
