Residents of Soin, Murindat and Ebburu Mbaruk wards affected by floods receive relief food

Nakuru County Department of Disaster Management teams today visited 25 families in Lomolo A village in Soin ward and 22 families in Murindat Ward affected by flash floods due to the recent downpour to deliver foodstuff from H.E Governor Susan Kihika.

In Lomolo A village, Soin Ward, over 15 houses were destroyed by the raging floods with property of unknown value lost during the incident. However, the fast response from the area residents ensured no life was lost.

While donating foodstuffs that included maize, beans, millet, rice and green grams from the County Government, John Macharia who represented the Chief Officer for Disaster Management Joyce Ncece said the County would look for other ways they help the victims.

This is after they requested more assistance in the form of building materials to rebuild their homes as well as blankets and bedding items.

On his part, the area MCA, Naburuki Degaulle pleaded with the residents to relocate from the areas considered natural waterways to avert such an incident in the future.

Naburuki who is also the chairperson of the Disaster Management Committee at the County Assembly further urged residents not to take chances in areas considered dangerous from flooding.

His sentiments were echoed by Korkoren Leonard Assistant Chief Lomolo sub-location who reiterated the need to move away from the riparian land and natural way that are prone to flash floods as a mitigation measure to save lives and property.

Three other families from Ebburu Mbaruk, Nderit and Elementaita who were also affected by floods yesterday also received humanitarian assistance in the form of foodstuffs.

The Murindat team was represented by the Disaster Management officer, John Muchai. Also present were area MCA Hon PM Njoroge and Ward Admin Esther Nyambura.
