Sidai Primary school, Subukia, benefits from a feeding program

The CECM for Education Ms Zipporah Ngugi and the Chief Officer Mr John Koech on Wednesday visited Sidai Primary school in Subukia Sub-county where the Feeding Futures organization is conducting different activities in the school and is set to roll out a feeding program when schools opened.
Feeding Futures is a charity organization that works with schools in rural Kenya to provide meals to primary schools and train farmers in agricultural practices to sustain the project.
At Sidai primary school, Feeding Futures has done several projects including the construction of a modern kitchen well equipped, the installation of 8 water tanks for harvesting rainwater, tree planting and a 4K club project.
Speaking during the visit, the CECM for Education Ms Zipporah Ngugi noted that the County is committed to working with such like-minded partners with the aim of empowering the community and boosting the livelihoods of Nakuru residents.
She also highlighted that the administration is planning to roll out the school feeding program across the County which is in line with Governor Susan Kihika’s manifesto and also the Pre-primary Education Policy. This, she noted, is the best mechanism for increasing enrollment, retention and even boosting the nutrition of the ECDE-attending children in the County.
While making his remarks, the Chief Officer Mr Koech reiterated the CECM’s sentiments urging the team to roll out the program across the 11 sub-counties in Nakuru, especially in the 4K club and even allow for healthy competition among the schools.
The Area MCA Hon. Isabella Makori in her remarks highlighted the issue of planting fruit trees like avocado instead of planting cypress trees noting that the county will partner with Feeding Futures to roll out the project as it will be of value edition on climate, environment, provide firewood and also nutrition value to the kids especially the ECDE learners and the community at large in terms of Agriculture.
Mr Peterson Githinji the County Coordinator for the Feeding Future program appreciated the County through the leadership of H.E. the Governor saying the organization is ready to partner with the County to bring impact to the community and embrace sustainability.
Plans are underway for the commissioning of the modern kitchen by at Sidai Primary School.
