Trade Department on a mission to improve market facilities

Written by Jeremy Ogolla

The Department of Trade is on a whirlwind tour in various parts of the County to kickstart the construction of new market shades and stalls, and the completion of the stalled ones. This will enable Nakuru residents to enjoy a conducive trading environment as promised by Governor Susan Kihika.

Today the Department of Trade led by Trade Executive Mr Stephen Kuria handed over to the contractor the proposed construction of market stalls at Barut Market in Barut ward, Nakuru West Sub-county. He also handed over the construction of a market shed and other market amenities at Nyamathi market, Solai Ward, Rongai Sub-county.

Speaking during the handing over of the sites, Mr Kuria called on the contractors to expedite the construction process so as to allow the traders to enjoy trading activities in conducive market facilities as soon as possible.

He was accompanied by the Tourism and Culture Chief Officer Rosemary Kimani who called on the contractors to consider employing youths during the construction process.

The market traders thanked Governor Kihika for the move, saying it is a sigh of relief to most of them who have been operating in an unfriendly environment in the markets.

Also present were Trade administrator Veronica Njiiri, Market Superintendent Samuel Maina, Barut Ward MCA Ben Kirui, Solai Ward MCA Nixon Morogo and Francis Njoroge a representative from the Office of the Governor, officials from the Nation Government among others.
