Subukia Sub-County ESP Market to benefit over 200 vendors

The Subukia Economic Stimulus program market in Subukia Sub-County is slated to be ready by the end of February 2025, and is set to benefit over 200 vendors with a conducive working environment to carry out their businesses.
The Ksh60 million integrated modern market at Subukia Town will offer a range of modern amenities, that includes Cold rooms for the preservation of perishable goods, Dry stores, for storing cereals and other non-perishable items.
Additionally, the facility will have a Mother’s room, a dedicated space for lactating mothers, Children’s play area, an ICT Hub, a Social Hall, a Kitchen, a Baby changing area, Toilets among other amenities.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the market, Nakuru County Governor H.E Governor Susan Kihika emphasized the national and the county Governments commitment to improving the business environments for traders in Nakuru County.
The Governor noted that, the county has been allocated 20 modern markets in a collaborative effort with National government, distributed across different sub-counties, aimed at promoting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs
“We expect this market to be ready for use by the end of February or beginning of March next year so that we can create a conducive environment for our traders through this modern facility. We have other markets being constructed across the County that will significantly promote the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs),” the Governor said.
“These are some of the promises we made during the campaign period and we are committed to fulfilling them.”
The Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) is a joint initiative between the National and County Governments to construct markets that support small-scale traders and boost economic growth.
The markets are designed to be modern and are aimed at revitalizing the country’s economy by improving market infrastructure. They will also provide a secure, hygienic, and well-organized place that promotes local produce and supports the growth of businesses as well as creates jobs opportunities for thousands of young people.
Also present during the inspection event were Deputy Governor H.E David Kones, County Secretary Dr Samuel Mwaura, County Executives, Stephen Kuria (Trade), Roselyn Mungai (Health Services) Michael Kamau (Infrastructure) Chief officers Dr John Murima, (Medical Services) Newton Mwaura (Agriculture), Subukia Mp Samuel Gachobe, Subukia Ward MCA Isabella Makori, Edward Kamau, Subukia Sub-County hospital Medical Superintendent among other County Officials.
