World Bank to boost Nakuru County Climate Action Plan

The County Government of Nakuru is collecting data for the Participatory Climate Risk Assessment in all the 55 wards.

The collected data will play a vital role in determining areas to be funded by the World Bank through the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programs.

The programs aim to support the communities’ ability to withstand climate change impacts.

Chief Officer of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources Kennedy Barasa said the outcome of the exercise will also support the development of a county climate action plan.

This will aid in the establishment of equitable and sustainable strategies that will mitigate the effects of climate change at the local level.

He also revealed more residents are joining the exercise.

Some of the identified environmental hazards includes unreliable weather patterns, drought, infrastructure vulnerabilities caused by heavy rainfall and prolonged drought, air pollution, health issues, increased heat, pest infestations, and livestock diseases, among others.

The community’s resilience to climate change can be enhanced through prioritized measures including desilting of dams, borehole drilling, afforestation, reforestation, road upgrades and diversification.
