Nakuru City and Midrift Hurinet Launch Youth-led Peace and Security Initiative

Nakuru City has launched a program which seeks to enhance peace and security by building trust between the youth and security teams in the county.
Supported by GIZ-CPS-Kenya and overseen by Midrift Hurinet, the program seeks to build trust between youth, police, and the County Government Administration.
The team engaged youth in an interactive dialogue session focusing on conflict mediation, violence prevention, and strengthening relationships with the County and City Administration.
Speaking during the launch, the CECM for Youth Josephine Achieng’ emphasized that empowering young people is essential for sustainable community development and fostering a culture of peace. She highlighted the critical role of youth in driving social change and committed to supporting their efforts.
City Manager Mr Gitau Thabanja reiterated Nakuru’s commitment to involving youth in governance. He pointed out that youth-led initiatives are vital in creating a safe and secure urban environment, and the city will continue to support programs that encourage youth development and leadership.
He said that the initiative aligns with H.E Governor Susan Kihika’s vision for a peaceful and secure Nakuru. The initiative represents a crucial step towards addressing the root causes of conflict in Nakuru, promoting inclusive governance, and fostering lasting peace and social cohesion in the city and county.
Through this partnership, the City Management, the Department of Youth and Sports and Midrift Hurinet have set a precedence for multi-sectoral collaboration in peacebuilding, with youth at the forefront of these efforts.
