Nakuru County Signs Agreement with Water Sector Trust Fund

The County Government of Nakuru through the Department of Water and Sanitation led by Dr Nelson Maara today signed a funding agreement with the Water Sector Trust Fund (WSTF) on a conditional liquidity support grant (CLSG) project for 29 water service providers.

Water Fund is a Kenyan State Corporation mandated to provide funding to the Kenyan water sector and specifically marginalized and underserved areas of Kenya.

A total of 16 counties covering 29 Water Service Providers with 17 interventions have signed the agreement. The CLSGS-2 Program is worth Kshs 2.2 billion with Nakuru County getting Kshs. 500,000,000 (five hundred million). The fund will help improve water and sanitation facilities throughout the County. It will be run by NARUWASCO, NAWASSCO, and NAIVAWASCO .

Nakuru County Govt is strategizing on attracting funding from WaterFund to improve on provision of Water and sanitation services to the residents as this is in line with Governor Susan Kihika’s manifesto

While lauding the move, the CECM for water and sanitation Dr. Nelson Maara called on the WSTF Team to keep up the spirit and called on other partners to follow suit for streamlined coordination of the sector interventions. He praised the efforts that the County Government of Nakuru and its partners are investing in the water sector geared towards the realization of the Governor’s dedication to making water accessible to all the residents across the county.

He was accompanied by Nahashon Wahome the Managing Director for NAIVAWASCO, Reuben Korir the MD for NARUWASCO, and James Gachathi the MD for NAWASSCO.
