Nakuru County will host the 43rd edition of the Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (KECOSO) Games this August.
The sporting activity founded in 1978, will bring together over 3,000 participants from 13 member organizations including the Ministries of Roads and Transport, ICT and Digital Economy, Youth Affairs Sports and Arts and parastatals that fall under the three ministries.
KECOSO Secretary General Mr Omole Asiko intimated that the organizing Committee settled on Nakuru County due to its well-developed sporting facilities that can host all the competitions.
During a meeting with Deputy Governor H.E David Kones and other County Officials at the County Headquarters, Mr Omole said that other factors including hotel capacity to host officials and participants, security and safety arrangements were also considered.
“We have inspected the Afraha Stadium which has been under construction and are confident that the facility will be ready by August to host the competitions. We had a challenge in Narok as they lacked a golf course but Nakuru has everything needed for all the competitions,” Asiko said.
He added that the games’ objectives include promoting sports activities within member organizations; promoting closer relationships and business interaction, and creating awareness of the services and products rendered by individual members.
Deputy Governor Kones lauded the Governing Council for choosing Nakuru County to host the event for the 7th time, noting this will prepare Nakuru to host other National and international sporting activities.
“Nakuru County is investing in sports infrastructure, under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika, the County is ready to host any event of national or international value. This is also aimed at growing the talents of our young people,” the Deputy Governor said.
County Executive for Sports Josephine Atieno assured the committee that the Afraha Stadium will be ready and will be able to host most of the competitions.
This year’s event will feature 12 disciplines including athletics, golf, snooker, swimming, basketball, football, darts, pool, scrabble, volleyball, netball and table tennis.
