Written by Nabwire Naholi
Nakuru City, in collaboration with the Environment Department, has mapped out spaces for installing additional planters in the CBD. This initiative is meant to enhance the urban environment and create a more aesthetically pleasing city centre. It will also contribute to environmental sustainability by adding greenery and improving air quality in addition to playing a crucial role in the ecological health of the city.
During the exercise, City Manager Mr. Gitau Thabanja emphasized the importance of green spaces in urban settings. He stated that the goal is to transform Nakuru into a greener, more eco-friendly, and sustainable city for residents and visitors alike. This initiative is part of a broader National Government strategy to integrate nature into the urban landscape.
Other benefits expected to come with the exercise include the reduction of urban heat, improving air quality, and providing habitats for small wildlife.
The initiative aligns with H.E. Governor Susan Kihika’s vision of promoting a healthy and vibrant urban environment and advancing the City’s sustainability goals and overall well-being of residents.
The exercise is expected to commence in the coming weeks and residents and business owners will start to see the installation of planters throughout the CBD. This visible transformation will mark a significant step in Nakuru’s efforts to improve the quality of life for its citizens and foster community pride.
