Streamlining Healthcare Services in Nakuru County
Written by Ruth Magak
In a bid to enhance healthcare delivery and ensure better outcomes for its residents, the Department of Health has initiated the consolidation process for the Countywide Health Sector Annual Workplan (AWP) for the Financial Year 2024/2025.
County Executive Committee Member for Health, Roselyn Mungai who officially inaugurated the forum emphasized that the outcome of this exercise must go beyond a mere wishlist. She said that it must strategically address challenges in service delivery to meet the needs of Nakuru residents effectively.
This consolidation effort is a collaborative initiative, starting from the grassroots level, where community involvement through Community Health Promoters played a pivotal role.
The process then progressed to the health facilities at the sub-county level, and now it culminates at the county level, where all plans will be merged into one comprehensive AWP.
The primary objectives of this consolidation exercise include orienting participants on policy directions, aligning activities with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Governor’s Agendas, and strengthening partnerships with all stakeholders.
Ms. Mungai emphasized the need to identify health needs raised by the community, allocate resources efficiently, and track performance towards achieving strategic goals.
Importantly, Ms. Mungai underscored the significance of evaluating the current work plan’s performance and ensuring alignment with the Governor’s manifesto to effectively meet objectives.
The aim is to develop a robust plan that will lead to tangible improvements in healthcare delivery by addressing identified gaps and prioritizing interventions.
The consolidation team comprises of Medical Superintendents, Facility Nursing Officers in charges, Sub County Health Managers, and the County Health Management Team.
This collaborative effort is further supported by various implementing development partners in the healthcare sector, including USAID (United States Agency for International Development) through initiatives like USAID Tujenge Jamii, USAID Private Sector Engagement, USAID 4 Better Health, USAID Misingi Jamii and USAID HERO supporting in Health Financing.
Additionally, partners like Jhpiego through ‘The Challenge Initiative, InSupply Health, Health Procurement Africa, Nutrition International, Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, Certified Institute of Procurement Studies, Financing Alliance for Health, Physicians for Human Rights, and IPAS are actively involved in supporting this consolidation exercise.
