
Tree Planting at Sururu Forest, Mau Narok Ward, Njoro Sub-county

Nakuru Deputy Governor H.E David Kones today joined the Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon Aden Duale and other leaders in a tree planting exercise at Sururu forest in Mau Narok Ward, Njoro Sub-County where more than 50,000 trees were planted.
Growing trees is one of the most powerful solutions in the fight against climate change and has numerous benefits, both for human beings and the environment. Trees act as natural air purifiers, providing oxygen and filtering pollutants from the air.
The residents and other officials while participating in the exercise appreciated Governor Kihika for taking the lead in implementing the global cause as they expressed their excitement, noting that they were happy to be part of a global initiative that would have a positive impact on the environment and the future of their city.
In his remarks, the Cabinet Secretary highlighted the importance of this exercise, “Tree planting is one of the best ways to curb climate change that is threatening the world’s environment. I take this opportunity to thank the Government for prioritising the tree planting agenda, let take advantage of the rains to plant more trees today as we mark the National Tree Planting Day as a nation,” Hon. Duale said.
On his part, Deputy Governor Kones noted that the County is committed to environmental conservation through planting of trees along riverbanks and sources, aimed at revitalizing river sources, purifying water upstream and averting soil erosion.
This is in line with Governor Susan Kihika’s manifesto of ensuring conservation of the environment and achieving President’s goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
Also joining the tree planting exercise were,Nakuru County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara, Hon.Charity Kathambi Chepkwony MP Njoro, CECM for Water and Environment Dr. Nelson Maara, CECM for Agriculture, Leonard Bor, Chief Officers, Kennedy Mungai (Environment), Margaret Kinyanjui (Water), Evelyn Kakai ( Economic Planning), Newton Mwaura (Agriculture), Mau Narok ward MCA Hon Cyrus Dida Ndegwa, members of the Kenya Defence forces and Kenya Forest Service, officers from National and County Government among others.
