The Department of Water, Energy and Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change is committed to ensuring sustainable resource management, environmental conservation, and climate resilience. Through strategic policies and innovative programs, the department promotes access to clean water, renewable energy, and environmental protection for economic growth and community well-being.

Mandate

  • To conserve the environment, provide portable water and adoption of clean, sustainable energy.
  • A self-reliant, secure and quality life.
  • To provide potable water by sinking boreholes, construction mini dams and laying last mile infrastructure, conserve environment, mainstream adoption of sustainable clean energy through education, awareness and control.
  • Improve water, sanitation and sewerage management.

  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in harvesting, provision and control of water for irrigation.
  • Undertake environmental planning, conservation and management.
  • Manage solid waste.
  • Design and implement climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.
  • Energy reticulation and promotion of clean energy.
  • Perform conservation management in the county
  • Promote tree planting and extension forestry resources management.
  • Enforce policies, standards and regulations.
  • Undertake pollution control (public nuisance, air, land, water, noise and excessive vibrations).
  • Develop and implement natural resource management programs.
