The Business community drawn from different marketplaces within Nakuru today received skip bins through the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources to enhance garbage collection.
One skip bin will serve the Kipanga, Stimaline and Ponda Mali markets in Rhonda Ward and another the Soko Mjinga market in Kaptembwa Ward in Nakuru Town West sub-county. The skip bins will help in the proper disposal of waste. Heshima market in Kiamaina ward Bahati sub-county also received a skip bin.
Chief Officer for Environment Kennedy Mungai reiterated that caring for nature without creating waste is important for the planet and humanity’s health, saving valuable resources, combating climate change, recognizing the beauty of our environment and reaping economic benefits. He added that it also ensures that current and future generations can enjoy sustainability, good health, and prosperity.
MCA for Kiamaina ward Paul Waweru commended the initiative noting that caring for nature is not just a responsibility but something we do for our welfare and everyone.
“Simple acts of proper waste disposal are a big help to the next generation. Always remember that cleanliness starts from yourself and is shared with the community for a better and more pleasant place.”
The bins will greatly assist businesses and communities in dumping waste in the right places before it is disposed of at the dump sites.
This initiative also helps in enhancing workplace safety, championing effective waste management and fostering environmental conservation. It also emphasizes the value of collaborating with reputable waste management entities.
The County Government of Nakuru under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika remains obligated towards the collection of waste and continues to emphasize the need to ensure waste is disposed of correctly and the procurement of skip Bins will ease the disposal of waste.
He was accompanied by MCA Rhonda ward John Macharia, MCA Kiamaina ward Paul Waweru, sub-county Environment officers, ward climate change committees, and CHPs among others.
