Governor Lee signs Municipal Charter
Nakuru County Governor H.E Lee Kinyanjui has signed the Municipal Charter for Nakuru and Naivasha towns.
He said the move is a great milestone towards achieving city status.
He said the next step is for the County Assembly to vet members of the Municipal Boards.
“After being sworn in the members will recommend to the County Assembly that the Municipality be upgraded to a city. Once the Assembly passes this motion, it will be forwarded to the Senate and then the President,” he said.
The Governor said the Charter itself cannot change peoples lives, and the county has to invest in infrastructure, agriculture, water and other sectors.
He said his government is working with other partners to improve roads in our towns to ease accessibility.
“We are cleaning and greening the town, including rehabilitating Nyayo Gardens and Naivasha Peoples Park,” he said.
He added there are benefits that come with becoming a city and municipality. It will make our towns attractive to investors and boost tourism.
