Nakuru County continues mapping out land for public utilities

The mapping out of parcels of land for the development of public utilities continues across the county.

The exercise which was rolled out in early January 2023 through the Lands Department has seen 20 parcels of land mapped out, evenly distributed in the 11 sub-counties.

Today the team mapped out parcels of land for the construction of Sabtet road in Elburgon, the construction of the road network at Kiangwaci, Turi and the construction of an Early Childhood Development Education Centre (ECDE) at Karuga in the Molo sub-county.

Land and Physical Planning Director Mr Kiprono Robert who led the team expressed his confidence in the task force constituted to oversee the activity noting that it will work jointly with the relevant stakeholders to ensure the success of the exercise.

Mr Kiprono further narrated that compulsory acquisition of land in Kenya is provided in the Land Act, 2012 which prescribes the process to be followed by the public authority which intends to acquire the land for a project.

In reference to the Act, the authority is required to map out the target land and maintain a register of persons occupying the land, the legal rights they have over that land and their period of uninterrupted occupation.

“I wish to confirm to you that we have keenly noted every key concern and the planning will adequately serve to ensure the parcels are acquired procedurally,” he said noting that the exercise will continue in the remaining sub-counties earmarked to benefit from the program.

Elburgon MCAs Mr Njuguna Mwaura appreciated the strides made by H.E Governor Kihika’s administration pointing out that the exercise will create new opportunities by improving people’s livelihood through the development and providing security to public land.

Also joining the meeting were the County Legal officer and County Surveyor Benson Kipenju and Robert Otiti respectively.
