Ngata United FC Men and Women Triumphs in The Mosop Ward Boxing Day Tournament

The Mosop Ward Boxing Day Tournament, organized by Nakuru’s First Gentleman and Patron Sam Mburu, MBS, culminated in a celebration of talent and unity at Ngata Primary School in Rongai Sub-county.

The tournament that kicked off on 9th December 2023, themed “Youth Empowerment and Talent Showcase,” brought together 52 teams from Mosop Ward, each contributing to the mission of fostering cohesion and addressing societal challenges such as drug abuse, crime, insecurity, idleness, and early pregnancies.

The winners in each category were showered with accolades and cash prizes. Men’s football winners got Ksh. 500,000 while position two pocketed Ksh.300,000. Third and fourth-position teams got Ksh. 200,000 and Ksh. 100,000 respectively.

For women, the winner was awarded Ksh. 100,000 while the second position team got Ksh. 75,000. The third and fourth position teams got 50,000 and 25,000 respectively.

The Federation of Kenya Football (FKF) tournament officials led by George Wafula the Chairman and the Secretary John Mwangi set the pace for this tournament and pooled teams into different groups.

Ngata ladies and Boror ladies won against Ogilgei ladies 2-0 and Sumeek 3-2 respectively during their Semi-Finals and qualified for the finals. Ngata United FC and Juhudi FC Men categories won against Ogilgei FC 4-0 and Samba FC 2-0 respectively during their Semi-Finals and qualified for the finals. Ogilgei FC Men bagged the third position after narrowly winning 1-0 against Samba FC.

The ladies’ team defeated Boror Ladies 2-0, while the men’s team won 4-2 in a penalty shootout against Juhudi FC after a 1-1 draw in regular time. Awards and trophies were presented by the First Gentleman, who also pledged to support Ngata Primary by building four classrooms and providing a community bus for the residents of Mosop Ward.

Nakuru County Governor H E Susan Kihika expressed her appreciation for the event and promised to continue supporting sports in the county as a means to combat drug abuse and crime among youth.

Water Cabinet Secretary Zachary Njeru also pledged his support by announcing plans to sink a water borehole in the school to benefit the community. Hon Farouk Kibet, the Chief Guest, also urged the governor to consider talented players for future government opportunities.

The event was well-attended by various political leaders, including Members of Parliament, County Executive Committee Members, and Members of the County Assembly. Representatives from the Football Kenya Federation were also present.
